I was interviewed recently and I was asked how I made blogging easier. My response was that for every day I had a theme: Mondays are productivity, Tuesdays Open Loops, etc.
After the interview I realized that I do that for many other areas of my life, and it really boosts my productivity. So I thought I would share how I apply this Day of the Week theme method.

Time for a confession. For all that I write about productivity and simplicity and organization, there are many times when I completely blow it. I write this blog as much for me as I do for you, and I would be only showing you half of the picture if I didn’t admit when I screw up. So this article is about a big fail, and what I did to get it back on track.
Our guest bedroom, which is rarely used for guests, has morphed into the place where I store all of my craft supplies and do sewing. I’ve been avoiding going in there recently, though, because it was so disorganized and cluttered that I was overwhelmed as soon as I walked in the door. It was time for a makeover.

My daughter, and to a certain extent myself, have a habit of not putting things away. After clearing piles of toys, papers, books and video games off the kitchen table so we could eat dinner, I watched my daughter dump everything into the living room. Getting rid of stuff can be tough. Getting rid of kid’s stuff can be even tougher, as they cling to broken toys or bits of junk from restaurants. But it is possible to show a child how to pare down their possessions with a minimum of fuss and tears.

One of the challenges of having a family with activities and schedules is that it can be difficult to coordinate things. Even in my small family, it can be difficult to keep track of where everyone needs to be.
In order to have a good handle on activities, you need to have a good calendar system. A paper calendar can work, but it has disadvantage of being in one place, and if you’re not standing in front of it, you don’t have access.
I have found that using Google calendar is a great solution.
