I had an AHA moment at work this afternoon. I’ve always been in the habit of writing down where I am and what I need to do next in a notebook before I leave. I do this so I don’t have to think about what I’m doing.
Lately I’ve been juggling tasks, though, and I lose track of where I am on a given project that I may not have worked on in several days. I simply can’t find it in the notebook.
The solution: use two notebooks. I have a steno pad on my desk that I keep the “where I am” notes, and then my big notebook for the random jottings I use while working on a problem.
If I get derailed from a task, I just have to flip through a few pages on the steno pad to find out exactly where I am.
