Guest Post Guidelines
Posted on January 18, 2010 by LJ Earnest
I get inquiries from people asking if they can guest post on SimpleProductivityBlog, and if so, what am I looking for. I thought it would be best to lay it all out in one place.
The short answer is YES, I accept guest posts. As long as your post meets my guidelines (below), the chances are pretty good I’ll accept it. I’m always looking for fresh perspectives and opinions.
I currently only publish guest posts once a week, usually on Thursdays.
The Guidelines
- The post content should apply to the blog topics: productivity, simplicity, balance and life design. It can come from research, or from your own experience.
- I prefer posts between 750 and 1000 words long. This is not a hard and fast rule, though.
- Your post must be original, be written by you, and never have been published elsewhere (in print or on the ‘net).
- You agree not to publish the post anywhere else. You may, however, link to it.
- Each post can have a two- to three-sentence bio with up to two links (preferably to another blog you write for or your own business), which will appear at the end of the article.
- You will not embed SEO tags, monetizing tags, link trackers or affiliate codes in your article.
- I reserve the right to edit the content (with approval from you, of course) and will edit the formatting to suit the blog layout. (Although if you provide me with standard HTML markup, that is really awesome!)
- You must be submitting links for your own blog or website, and the site should have something to do with productivity or simplicity.
How Do I Submit?
If you have a post you feel meets the criteria, please email me the completed post (or at least a well-populated outline!) at GuestPost (at) simpleproductivityblog (dot) com. Remember that I only accept plain text attachments! I will usually respond within 1 week with a decision to accept the post or not. (If I don’t accept it, you are obviously welcome to submit it elsewhere.)
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you give me a topic? No.
Can I include my email address in the article? No.
What format do you accept? Text files attached to an email. If you want to include some HTML codes for formatting, they must be limited to bold, italic, list and header markings. I’m sorry, but due to my time constraints, I can no longer accept Word documents, text in the body of an email, full HTML documents, or any other format.
Can I choose the picture that goes with the article? Yes. However, it must be a creative commons commercial license and you must provide me with a link to the source. If you don’t provide one, it’s not a big deal. I will pick one. Please do not attach images.
My article has nothing to do with productivity, simplicity or anything you talk about. Will you look at it? The article should somehow relate to the blog topics or articles that have been published before on the site. In other words, no.
Can I choose when you will publish it? No. But I will tell you when it will go on the site. If the posting date changes, I will let you know.
How much editing will you do? That depends on the article. Honestly, if the article requires too much editing due to poor writing, I will probably reject it and tell you why. Most of the editing I do is to get the article into my blog format, and breaking up large chunks of text into smaller paragraphs.
I’m a freelancer, looking to post an article I am getting paid to write for a client. Will you accept? Probably not.
I’m looking to advertise by posting a guest post. Will you accept? Probably not.
Do I get to approve the edits? Yes.
Can I write a longer article? If your content is good, yes, I will consider a longer article.
Should I add sub-headings? Yes.
What is the best way to get published on SimpleProductivityBlog.com? Write an original article with value content in a scannable format (sub-headings, lists, etc), then follow the guidelines for submission.
Where do I submit? Send the completed article or a well-populated outline to GuestPost (at) simpleproductivityblog (dot) com.
