When I would arrive at work, I would dutifully transfer my Palm, cell phone, MP3, USB drive, USB chargers and headphones to my desktop. Most days these items would remain untouched. I would pack them up at the end of the day, where I would repeat the process on my home desk.

Except at home my desk is much smaller, and I usually ended up knocking something onto the floor.

There are a couple of different ways to handle this problem:

  1. Consolidate gadgets. The obvious way to have less clutter is to have less gadgetry. Consolidate what you can, get rid of the rest.
  2. Keep unused gadgets put away. You don’t have to keep everything out at once. For example, I rarely used the chargers at work. I could have kept them in my briefcase until I actually needed them. Same with all the others.
  3. Box them up. There are some nice boxes now that combine gadget holders with a charging base (see Mr. Handsfree Family Charger). Alternatively, a simple box just to toss the devices in will work to corral them.

Since I put a gadget box (found at Michael’s Craft store for $3.99) on my desk, my desktop has been less cluttered. Plus I always know where the devices are.
