Independence

Today is Independence Day in the U.S. Amid the fireworks and picnicking, I began to muse that perhaps both productivity and simplicity are moving me toward a life of greater freedom and independence.

I moved to a part-time schedule at the beginning of 2007, directly as a result of my level of productivity. My client gets the same amount of work out of me in 30 hours that others do in 40 (or more), so I have the extra 10 hours to myself. (In theory).

Simplicity is getting me to the point where I’m not dependent out outside stuff. I have what I need, use what I have, and in moving closer to a simpler life, find my stress levels decreasing.

So on this Independence Day, I ask you, the readers, the question: what is productivity and simplicity doing for you?
