I had heard of Jott, but never paid much attention until a reader pointed it out to me in a comment on the post How I Capture Random Thoughts. It was a suggested as a replacement for calling voicemails to leave myself reminders. I decided to take a look, and I am sorry I didn’t do it before!
What Jott Is
Jott is a free reminder service. You call a toll-free number, and Jott transfers your spoken word to an email.
The setup is pretty painless. It gives you a number to call, and it reads the caller id for the number and sets up the account.
It does a pretty good job on the text translation, too. I have only had one message garbled: “Give Mindy flea medicine” as the garbage truck came through became “Give Mindee free Madison”. But the original call recording was available to me to decipher on my own.
How I have used it
I have been using Jott for one week. I have set it up so that I can send reminders to myself, my partner, and my shopping service.
I usually have a burst of “I need to remembers” on the way to work, so I just pull out my cell as I’m headed out the door, and I have all my reminders in by the time my car is started. By the time I get to work, I can translate them into my to-do list.
A big thanks Greg for pointing this out to me!
