I hate to admit this, but this particular method never occurred to me! I will check it out, because I can see where it could really save us a lot of money and wasted food!

My Mother was a big bulk shopper. We grew up on sandwiches made from deli meat bought in bulk. She would divide it into several one week's supply bags and freeze it. I never noticed any loss of quality during the defrosted weeks (although I occasionally had sandwiches with partially frozen meat when we didn't take the next week's supply out of the freezer in time).

I never said that Maxwell House was a generic. However, given the (very poor) structure of my paragraph, it could be inferred that is what I was saying.

I will amend the paragraph so it is clearer.

Just a note about generics: Maxwell House isn't a generic brand of coffee. A generic coffee would be "Safeway-brand" (or "Kroger-brand" or "Fry's-brand" or "Food Club"/Basha's brand.) Maxwell house is a famous brand of inexpensive coffee that is sold in supermarkets, in contrast to Starbuck's, a more expensive coffee that is usually sold already-made.
