Open Loops 3/24/2009: Articles I Think Worth Passing Along

Tuesdays are open loop at SimpleProductivity blog.
The Simple Dollar asks the question “Do You Want to Be Rich?“. The surprising answer? No! After reading the article, I have to agree. I don’t want to be rich. I want to be financially secure.
Almost Frugal looks at money already spent in “Sunk Costs“. This is where you hang on to things you’ve already spent money on simply because you’ve spent the money. For me, this is particularly a problem with craft projects. I’ve already spent time and money on something, so I need to finish it. Right? Wrong. Clearing out those old craft projects, and being honest with myself that I truly had no interest in finishing them, not only lightened my load, but it made me more aware of what I purchase.
At “Accomplish More: Work At Your Peak Times Of Day – Dumb Little Man” they talk about the common sense approach of getting more done when you’re at the top of your game. I liked this article because it doesn’t rehash the whys of doing it, but it goes through ways to help you find out what your peak time is, and what to do when your employer owns your peak times.
“Clutter: Get Rid of Your Clutter Crutches to Finally Get Clean” really got me thinking. What in my life inspires me to hang on to things “I should get to”? I didn’t have to look further than a foot away. At my elbow are my working files: File, Shred, Recycle…and the dreaded Read, where all magazines go, to be gone through every three months or so. Other things that inspire me to collect clutter are too much bookshelf space, almost unlimited crafting space, big hard drives, work bags I don’t go through daily, and the laundry basket that holds the family’s mending. Where are yours?
