Photo by VoxEfxOver at Jeri’s Organizing & Decluttering News “Fantasy-World Organizing” talks about “org porn”. This is the fantasy land of organization we see in magazines and on tv. What about productivity porn? I don’t know anyone who is on track all the time. Perhaps there is no level of high achievement, but levels of “good enough” and “better” mixed in with “really messy”.

I like reading the Happiness Project, and Gretchen posted a great article (Taken for Granted? 5 Tips for Dealing with Feeling Unappreciated.) that hit home. We all do a lot, and most of us would like more acknowledgement for what we do. The five points in this article are sound advice.

OrganizeIt’s “Productivity Tip #12: Do Something, It’s Better Than Nothing” shows a good way to get going. It’s one of the things I like about Autofocus. I can do something, even if it doesn’t “finish” the next action or task. Often that “something” is enough to get my motivated and moving.

I have aspired to minimize my stuff. But I have seen that I am actually a creature who likes comfort. Wise Bread talks about the down side of minimizing in “Confessions of a Minimalist: 9 Reasons I Miss My Stuff“. I applaud the author for being so honest.

Zen Habits ran an article, “Seven Productivity Tips For People That Hate GTD” that brought out a good point: “When it comes to GTD and other systems, it’s often too easy to get into a habit of over-engineering your system. You “geek out” on your system and lose sight of the point of pursuing productivity in the first place.” Getting Things Done, or any productivity system, isn’t for everyone. I find myself resisting the urge to geek out regularly. Last week I considered moving everything to Life Balance, just so I could have something tell me what to do, and when to do it…to avoid having to make those decisions myself.
