Open Loops 5/12/2009: Articles I Think Worth Passing Along

Tuesdays are open loop at SimpleProductivity blog.
Justin Lloyd’s “Super Productivity Boosters Part 1” was an excellent collection of productivity methods. Some are standard, such as batch tasking, but others, like time boxing are not. I especially liked the reminder: If you have the power to ignore something, do it. Far too often I do things simply because they are on the list, rather than examining the value of the task.
Best Universities put together a very succinct list of the ways to best handle working from home in :100 All-Time Best Productivity Tips for Working & Learning from Home “. Nothing new, but it is a large-number-of-tips-in-one-place-type-of-reference.
The Writer’s Manifesto produced an article on The Dangers of Multitasking. Hurrah! Another one on board!
Get Organized Now asks, “What’s In Your Purse?” I’m the type, both in purse and briefcase, who carries around many things I don’t need to. I like the method of clearing it out. Things you use, as you use them, put in a plastic bag. What’s left outside the bag at the end of the week needs to go.
I have tried to get into the habit of emptying my briefcase every night, and it helps, but I still lug around way more stuff than I ever use.
Rock Your Day gives us a good method to fool our brains in “Why You’re Not Doing The Things You Said You Wanted To, Part 1“: get started on a task. It’s easier to keep going on a task once you’ve started it than starting the task from scratch. Their example was one of morning exercise. If you are ready to go first thing in the morning, you don’t have the excuses not to actually do the exercises.
