Open Loops 5/26/2009: Articles I Thought Worth Passing Along

Tuesdays are open loop at SimpleProductivity blog.
Over at Productivity501, Mark wrote about “Setting Goals.” There are two points here that I don’t think we take into account often enough: keep your goals visible, and focus on success–not putting in time. Keeping them visible keeps us reminded and focused on what we are trying to achieve. Getting to success is better than putting in time. There is little we can learn by simply sitting. It’s the results that count.
As an aside, isn’t it interesting that our business models require us to put in time rather than getting to success? Wouldn’t it be great if we could be hired and work not according to hours, but rather what we produced? Those that produced faster would be rewarded with the extra time…oh, well. Someday.
OrganizeIt talks about “The 5 Big Reasons Why You Fall Off The Productivity Wagon – Practical advice on personal development, productivity and GTD“. Two points worth taking note of: you can’t function at 100% all the time, and you can’t do it all.
A great article with some advice and good quotes can be found at “10 Tips For Being The Best You Can Be | Intent.com“. If you haven’t looked at Intent yet, take a peek. There’s lots of things covered there. I post from time to time there as well, and can be found at my blog listings
Another look at the effectiveness vs. efficiency question can be found at “Are You Effective Or Just Efficient?” on Dumb Little Man. The thing is, I believe too many people discount the necessity of efficiency while doing the things that make you effective.
Unclutterer has a list of “Uncluttered aphorisms“. One of my personal ones is “If you have can’t figure out where it goes, it goes in the trash.” But I like the list Unclutterer presents, as well as some of the comments – I love the one about “negative crap-flow”.
