Open Loops 8/18/2009: Articles I Think Worth Passing Along

Tuesdays are open loop at SimpleProductivity blog.

Photo by Yume PhotoUnclutter talks about “Stress, stuff, and world travel: The not-so-secret connection”. I don’t travel much, but that will be changing, if I have anything to say about it. :) And even our family vacations are getting lighter. Our first trip to another country (what were we thinking, taking a three year old to French-speaking Canada without a word of French?) involved a suitcase and carry-on for all of us. We have progressively gotten lighter with each trip. The trip to Hawaii next year should be interesting because I really intend to minimize!

Often times I repeat to myself, “Things May Be Simpler Than You Think”. The Positivity Blog has a great take on this concept, including the maxim “Life becomes so much lighter and easier when you just let that stuff go.” It applies to physical stuff as well as emotional.

The Positivity Blog also ran an article “How to Solve a Problem: 6 Quick and Powerful Tips”. I adore the step: “Use 80 percent of your time to find solutions.” I like the fact that you can still whine 20% of the time. :)

I love frog/productivity metaphors (see Book Review: Eat That Frog! and Frogs, butterflies and productivity). Productive Flourishing has an article “A Frog A Day Keeps Your Anchors Aweigh” where the frogs are used again…but there is an explanation of the dread-to-work ratio, and a good point: not all frogs are the same. And remember….there will always be frogs. :)

I’ve been following The Year 20 Reboot for a bit, and this struck me as important: “Those first 90 seconds really matter”. How many times have I been too busy to greet my husband or daughter when they walk in the door? It is important to connect with our loved ones.
