Today’s articles both come from Zen Habits. While I don’t agree with everything Leo has to say, I think he’s got a great take on many things, including productivity. Zen Habits fell off my blog reader for a while (I’m not sure how or why) and I am enjoying myself as I get re-acquainted with the blog.

“Done: Reduce Task Friction to Get to Task Completion” reminded me of an elementary experiment in physics I did when I was in middle school. When things are heavy and rough, they require a great deal more effort to move. Use small items, make the surfaces as smooth as possible, and you won’t expend so much effort. Who would have thought this was applicable to everyday living? There’s no rule that says you can’t make things as easy as possible. Grease your way, reduce the mass of the thing you are trying to move, and get to DONE!

“How Simplicity Can Help Creativity, Briefly” came at an apt time. For most of the blog’s life, I have written at the computer. But recently I was getting blocked. By pulling out a good old pen and paper, I was able to get past the block and enjoy the creative process. Removing complications seems to be what I need to do these days to really get things done.
