Open Loops 12/8/2009: Articles I Think Worth Passing Along

Tuesdays are open loop at SimpleProductivity blog.

Life’s A Stitch, knitting blog I peruse (subtitled: “a blog about life and its antidote: knitting”), ran an article about what you would tell your 14-year-old self at “The collective wisdom”. It’s an intriguing concept. I think the two things I would have told my 14-year-old self are “you will get through this” and “life goes smoother when you mind your own business.” Not that my 14-year-old self would have understood either.
Dumb Little Man asks “Are You Treating Your Computer Better Than You Treat Yourself?” It’s an interesting take on self-care, put in terms I can readily understand. And yes, I treat my computer better than myself sometimes. Definitely time to remedy that.
I’m not sure that cleaning the refrigerator every day, even in small chunks, is part of my priorities. But I do know two things: cleaning takes a lot less time when dirt is “fresh”, and breaking things down makes it more likely I will tackle a task. TipNut has a great article on how to break cleaning the refrigerator down in “Clean The Refrigerator Daily In 10 Minute Chunks”.
Sometimes I just can’t get moving. “Productivity Down! An Emergency Response Guide” at OrganizeIt points out something: do ANYTHING. Don’t worry about being the most effective or efficient. Just get going.
I hate giving clutter for gifts. So I either make sure that the gift is something the recipient truly wants, or I give an experience. I really try to limit the stuff. Get Rich Slowly has a great starting guide to a stuff-less holiday at “The Anti-Stuff Holiday Gift Guide”. What do I want for the holidays? Time. I would love coupons for babysitting, chores done, anything that will give me a little extra time to do the stuff I want.
