When I'm talking about flexibility, I'm talking about the parent's schedule and expectations. :)

I'm with you on getting babies on a schedule. Things go much easier when there are set times for nap, feeding, etc. The children seem more calm as well. My daughter was fairly well scheduled from week four onward. It made things a lot more predictable for me.

We went with the flexible approach with our son, but when our girls were born we were inflexible and went with a schedule. We were suprised how very easily and naturally they adopted to a schedule.

I think my wife would agree that we were more exhausted the first six months with the boy then with the triplets.

These are excellent points. Most people underestimate the sheer exhaustion that comes from having to tend to a newborn.

Rule 1
When baby sleeps, Mom sleeps. Visitors just have to deal.

Rule 2
Visitors and guests are free to help out with anything that does not interrupt Mommy/baby time (diaper changes excluded).
