Summary

Diddlebug, by Putzer and Blevins, is is an electronic sticky note. It allows me to quickly “enter” (draw) notes on the screen. Later I can go back through them, and using the “pick and flick” algorithm to pop things into my calendar, to-do list, memos, etc.

Overview

Software: Diddlebug
Manufacturer: Putzer and Blevins Platform: Palm
Current Version: Palm: 2.90.b.4

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • This combines the best of freehand notes with graffiti entries.
  • Freeware
  • Links into the standard applications and also into some specialized apps
  • Multiple brushes for writing/drawing
  • Can set alarms from the entry screen for reminders
  • Can lock the entry to prevent accidental drawing on your entry

Cons

  • No direct link into Bonsai

Why Did I Download/Buy This?

Back when I first started using this, there was no freehand tool in the native Palm apps. Since the inclusion of Notepad, this is no longer the case. However, I still prefer Diddlebug, simply because I can process my notes directly from the application, without having to look, switch apps, write, go back, look some more, etc. I just have to write my entry at the bottom of the same screen as the note, and press an icon and voila! I have an entry in my calendar/to do, etc. The other main feature I love is the alarm. I can write a reminder of something that has to take place before my next processing session, and set an alarm to remind me of it, so it doesn’t get lost. This really cuts down on items that need to be tackled the day they are put in.

How I Use This?

This is a great capturing tool. By using this for making notes on the run, I can use one application to process it into my to do, address and calendar.

I use this to write things down so I don’t get sidetracked while doing other things. I pretty much always have my PDA within reach, and I can quickly write down a note and keep on going. The advantage to doing it here rather than on paper is I will always process these notes, and paper has a tendency to get lost!
