Why Did I Download/Buy This?
This past fall we had several nor’easters come through the area, brought on by warm winds and worsened by the full moon. The flooding was greater than we had had during the last hurricane to go through the area. This gave me an appreciation for finding out what the moon phase was.
Also, an environmental group I am working with recently adopted the edge of an urban tidal water spot for trash pickup. We can generally get more trash when the tides are at low points due to the moon phase.
How Do I Use This?
I use this most often when we are discussing when to do a trash pickup on the water. I use TideTool to figure out when the low tide is, and then we also look at the moon phase for the dates to find out how low the tide will be.
When we have had a storm predicted as well, I will look at the moon phase to find out how likely it is I will be stranded in my neighborhood due to tidal flooding and make preparations accordingly.
