Building a new habit, or doing something consistently can be hard. One method to help is the Seinfeld method (Follow Seinfeld’s Advice at Don’t Break the Chain), where you have a visible reminder of your winning streaks. This gives one more reason to keep up the habit – you don’t want to break the streak.
Wonderful Day is a way to keep track of how many days you have done something.
A simple application, it allows you to set the task, set up the days you want to do it, and then allows you to record your progress.
I have been having trouble getting to bed at a reasonable time. I set alarms on my iPod and computer, and I was still going to bed too late — and not getting enough sleep. I decided to test Wonderful Day for this purpose.
The main screen just lists your habits, and gives you a visual indicator of how you have done over the past week.
When you click on a task, it takes you to a screen that shows your progress for much longer.
To mark a task for the day, you click on the Mark button, and it takes you to a screen where you can indicate yes or no.
To add a task, you choose New Activity from the main screen and give it a title, then you can tell it when to repeat.
- The interface is intuitive and easy.
- It does one thing – shows you the streaks for multiple habits.
- If you miss recording a day, you can put it in later.
- The application has one built-in notification to mark your progress.
- There is no way to reset a start date.
- There is no way to erase a mark (although you can change it).
- There is no export function.
- There is no way to clear out data.
- There is only one notification to mark progress.
I am impressed with the software. The cons to the software are definitely not show-stoppers, but merely nice-to-haves. (And honestly I don’t know that I would use them, they are just things that came to mind).
The software has helped me put the focus on getting to bed at a decent time, and allows me to see when I haven’t been successful. I can look back and say, “I’m tired today, but I haven’t gotten to bed on time for the last week, so perhaps that is why.”
