Simplifying the Morning: Coffee

I don’t function well in the morning, particularly in the winter. My body wakes up naturally at sunrise. Unfortunately, that is often after I need to be up.

So I depend on caffeine and hot showers to get me going in the morning. But the coffee has to be ready as I make my bleary-eyed way down to the machine, or I will spend minutes either staring blankly at it, or fumble around making a huge mess.

One of my best productivity tricks is to get the coffee ready the night before and use a timer to get it going. Most coffee makers have a built-in timer these days; but even when I had a pot that didn’t, I used an appliance timer.

A few minutes the night before, and I wake up to hot, freshly brewed coffee!
