Wednesdays are simplicity days at SimpleProductivity blog.
One of the aspects of living a simpler, saner life is to eliminate stress.
Yet so many times, I hear people talk about difficulties that they are having with individuals, only to follow it up with a vow to try harder to get along. Or to try new methods to deal with difficult people.
In other words, more exposure to the stressor.
The plain truth is that not all people are good to have around us. And honestly, if you are more sensitive and thin-skinned than others, that is OK! Recognize it, and treat it as a sensitivity.
People who are allergic to substances do not go out of their way to encounter them. For instance, I have a citrus sensitivity. I can tolerate a little, but large amounts bring me out in a rash. So I make sure that I don’t get too much exposure.
Why would I treat an obnoxious co-worker any differently?
If you have consistent problems in dealing with a certain individual, please consider that maybe it isn’t your problem alone. And do what you can to limit your exposure to these stressors.
What do you think? Am I out in left field here? Let me know.
