Earlier this week, I wrote an article on syncing, Simplifying Syncing. I use my USB drive to take my project notes and reading material back and forth to work. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to leave my USB drive plugged in and go to the other location.

Luckily, there is a great little script that makes it hard to forget. I first saw this article, “Never Forget Your USB Stick Again” last summer, and after installing it at work, I have never left the drive there. Recently, I also added it to home, so that I don’t forget to pack it for work.

What USB program does

Simply, the program goes through all the drives that your computer has, and finds out if they are USB or FireWire drives. If there are any, it tells you to remove them.

The program was written in German, but it is very easy to decipher.

Where To Get It, How To Use It

The article over at 4SysOps can’t be topped. Step by step instructions, with pictures, on how to get it, install it and schedule it.

How to customize it

Warning: don’t attempt this if you don’t know VBScript.

Since all of the messages are in German, you might want to alter them into English. You can also change the sound it plays at the end. Open the script file in Notepad, and make your adjustments. The script is fairly simple and easy to follow.
