Update on Finishing Projects

Last week in “Finishing Projects” I wrote about how I was going to limit my active projects and work on that smaller subset until they were completed.

It was hard to decide what to work on and what to leave out. I ended up going for things that were not necessarily the most important, but things I knew had been on the list for a long time that I could also finish up quickly. I wanted to rid myself of the thorns in my paw as quickly as possible. Some important items made the cut, though.

When I got done with my list, it contained the following items:

  • Finish Side Garden
  • Knit jacket
  • Get K. holiday gift
  • Plant garden 08
  • Read book I’ve been trying to read for six months.
  • Redesign Blog

Some of those items, such as the side garden and blog redesign, had been on the list for months, and needed to be dealt with soon. Others, such as the jacket, I wanted to get done so I could move on to other projects.

Amazingly, in one week, I knocked out the garden, the blog, and the gift. I have also made significant strides on the jacket and finishing the book.

I am very pleased with the results of this experiment. I will continue to operate in limited project mode for the near future to see if this is due to me concentrating on the issue or if it is sustainable.
