I turn on my computer, it starts up, then logs in as me to finish all the initializing. Then when I am ready to use it, login goes much quicker. More details can be found at Lifehacker’s article “Secure boot directly to your desktop“.

I have also implemented it on the house computer, where I must be logged in in order to run the backups. Auto login allows me to turn on the machine and forget the rest.

Be careful not to use this in a place where your security might be compromised, though.
